time for a bit of a brain dump, wouldn't you say? i think so...
1. i bought alfalfa sprouts at the store last weekend and i have been loving them up on my sandwiches this week. i've been trying to finish a loaf of bread i have in my fridge (sidenote: do you guys refrigerate bread? i never did growing up but now that i'm in charge of killing a loaf on my own i can't finish the thing before it molds if i don't put it in the fridge) so sandwiches have been the name of the game and i'm loving alfalfa sprouts...except for every once in a while when a bite tastes almost exactly like dirt. THAT i am not a fan of.
2. this song came on my rihanna pandora the other day and it took me back. i was all about this song back in the day and it reminds me so much of when i was living in chicago during my first year of teaching. i proceeded to sing and rap the entire thing (NOT silently) while on the treadmill at the gym. would this have been less embarrassing in private? yes. but i needed to prove to myself that i still knew all the words so public humiliation was a small price to pay...in case you're worried, i still do. that doesn't necessarily mean i know what a stack on deck is exactly but that is neither here nor there (JK i totally am hip and sort of young and i know what that means).
3. these luna fiber bars have been my jam this week. i'm all about trying new bars (you know since my laziness took over and i can do nothing more for an afternoon snack than eat a granola bar) and when i saw these i grabbed a bunch. the chocolate raspberry is my favorite but the vanilla blueberry was good too. they're not going to replace my beloved original luna bars but they were a nice way to mix it up this week.

4. to say i am excited about notre dame going to the bcs championship is like saying that kim getting pregnant before khloe is a tad bit sad (I WEEP FOR KHLOE). in other words, just in case you don't speak kardashian, i am SO EXCITED I CAN'T CONTAIN MYSELF. and not just for the chance to see most of my family and tex, though that's incredibly thrilling as well. i leave saturday for miami and i am jumping out of my skin to hit the road. two of my brothers and elvis are flying down from chicago and we're meeting in south florida. tex and his family are also going to the game, so i'm looking forward to seeing them as well. monday night i'll be watching notre dame hopefully kill alabama in the national championship. as long as you're not a crimson tide fan, please wish us luck.
5. i've been having friend dates galore this week. jess and i had a running and dinner date last night. after we pounded out our 3 mile training run and did a 4 minute plank circuit, she helped me get rid of some of the stuff i have in my fridge. i feel like i travel so much i'm in a constant state of trying to eat all the food i have before it goes bad. we also had some much needed catch-up time which i needed more than i even thought. thank god for weeknight dinner dates. richard and i are going out to dinner tonight which does nothing to diminish my fresh produce supply but will do wonders for my happiness level because nothing makes me cheerful like hanging out with my favorite curly treat.
i hope your fridays are fast because despite the fact that this was only a three day work week, it has felt brutally long to me.

I love that song hahaha I remember it from my first summer of lifeguarding and it was awesome! We used to dance around the little kids and they thought we were nuts. Oh, and I can't make any snacks either. It's either an apple or a kashi bar for me. Let's continue the trend of friend dates into blend dates in the coming weeks :)
ReplyDeleteI never used to do anything special with my loaf of bread either...but now that I am having to eat one mostly by myself I always freeze it. I rarely ever eat my bread without toasting it first, so I find that freezing it really makes no difference in the taste of it for me. And then it last EVEN LONGER! :)
ReplyDeleteWe keep our bread in the freezer. I only ever eat my bread toasted (and so does my Dad) and we don't go through it fast enough, so in the freezer it goes immediately upon arriving home. Also, I save a tonne of money because I always buy it when it's 50% off because I know that it will never go bad. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnnnnd that song sends me back to a particularly memory of an intensely painful erg practice in my second year of varsity rowing. Soooo terrible. Glad it's in the past. Though I do not doubt your BA rap skills for a moment. I just hope that your coordination was better than the poor crumping homie on Alex's buzzfeed link. haha
I love that you love football. I'm a fan too. We're real women. ;)
Aren't friend dates awesome? They're like an escape from our lives. You get to connect and be there with and for someone else. Sigh. Fabulous.
I'm so bad about finishing up bread that I sometimes even freeze it. Then I'll take 4-6 slices out and put them in a baggy in the fridge until I want to use them. Otherwise I'd never finish a loaf!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're enjoying all of your friend dates this week. I'm majorly looking forward to one this weekend!
So jealous you're going to Florida... but I get to go next week :)
I have to keep my bread in the freezer, too, haha...easy enough to toast it up to defrost when I want a piece :) And you have such an awesome weekend planned, I can't even stand it! Fingers crossed Notre Dame wins so you guys have an even more amazing trip!!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you freeze the bread? I mean I know my parents refrigerate it so it stays longer but you can always freeze it. I mean I am the last person to ask because I can't even think of the last time I bought something remotely bread like. Friends dates but no Alex date - I see a huge problem there. I had a lame grocery store haul and thought of you because I wanted you to cook me dinner, I literally walked away with turkey sausage (darn good turkey sausage) eggs and vegetables. sad day. now that I run to matty in the morning, I tend to mouth the words of songs that come on while I run. probably look like a fool but I feel badass and feel like I am flying (while I am most likely just inching along). have a blast this weekend. like you won't....
ReplyDeleteI never kept bread in the fridge growing up either but have started in recent years because we somehow always have 5+ different loaves/ tortillas/ pitas and if we didn't they'd spoil too quickly... And we freeze rolls, easy to reheat! Alfalfa sprouts are the one thing that docs have recommended that I stay away from because of lupus- supposedly it increases inflammatory symptoms?! And more power to you, let your inner rapper shine bright like a diamond haha :P XO
ReplyDeleteI always keep my bread in the freezer. Even in the fridge, I don't think I would finish a loaf fast enough before it went bad. And I'm so bummed we don't get Luna fibre in Canada! Boo!
ReplyDeleteI always keep by bread in the freezer. I feel like it gets dry if I put it in the fridge! That sandwich looks amazzzing either way. Your bread is so thick and fluffy (It's SOO fluffffffy!) :).
ReplyDeleteLike everyone else, apparently, I freeze my bread as well. We always froze our bread growing up, so it's definitely what I'm used to now. I actually freeze all my bread-y things...loafs of bread, sandwich thins, tortillas, hamburger buns...all of it goes in the freezer. You have to leave things in there for like years before they go bad.
ReplyDeleteFor your sake, I'll keep my opinion (somewhat) to myself on what I hope will happen on Monday. But I promise to pretend to feel bad for you on Tuesday when the inevitable happens ;)
Brain dumps are the best. Especially fun ones like this one! Luna fiber bars are the best. I recently discovered them and haven't looked back. Nom, nom.
