somehow another weekend has come and gone and this was such a good one. i'm not the happiest that it's monday morning, but i also don't loathe mondays as much as your average person, so i'll take it. i think it has something to do with liking fresh beginnings and every monday is like a new beginning. well, that and the fact that it's breakfast time and good god i love breakfast so it almost makes up for the fact that i've got to go to work. especially when breakfast includes this:
i made a loaf of banana bread for my coworker this weekend and i'm sampling some of that this morning. i don't think she'll be disappointed and the fact that it's so good might make up for the fact that it's missing a slice or two. here's a little recap of my saturday night/sunday (wherein the BEST THING EVER happened)...
saturday night i put on my fanciest cardigan (actually i have much fancier cardigans - i have a LOT of cardigans) and headed out to get some dinner and drinks with friends at fuego in clarendon. fuego is a relatively new restaurant that serves more upscale mexican and delightful margaritas.
as i've mentioned, spice is my bestie this week, so the first margarita i tried was one with a jalapeno simple syrup, gin and cucumber. it was delicious. i also tried a habanero infused one and a traditional margarita (or two) for comparison. it was a great night of drinks.
not to be outdone, the tacos were seriously delicious. we had appetizers to split between the table including vegetable empanadas, duck flautas (OH MY GOD i want more of those) and queso fundido. each of us ordered tacos which came two to an order. i went with the beef and the crispy tilapia. both were awesome - not sure i can decide which i liked better - and the sauces they came with were also glorious. the middle one was super spicy and so obviously was my favorite. if you live in the area i highly recommend fuego.
and then...then THIS HAPPENED:
i went grocery shopping yesterday and wanted to pick up some of the chobani bites for lunches. my giant has been stocking them for a while so i was pretty bummed when i went today and they didn't have them. i bought the rest of my groceries but then i decided i'd run to target and see if they had any bites because when i get my mind set on something i really have to make it happen. i've been to this target approximately 14 times searching for the new pear and banana flavors but they apparently weren't stocking it...UNTIL NOW. i almost missed it because it was in a special end-of-aisle case since it was on sale. i literally squealed in excitement right there in the store. i know that greek yogurt isn't that exciting but i have been searching high and low for what feels like forever for these two and i was SO excited to finally find them.
obviously i had to immediately dig in when i got home and it did not disappoint, especially when i topped it with peanut butter puffins. i am a happy camper and also can't wait to try out the bite with lunch later today. i really want to try the fig and orange zest bite but they were out at target. can't complain too much because they came through in every other way.
last night's dinner was also spectacular. i have been meal planning much less religiously lately and when i go shopping instead of having a crazy long produce list i just buy whatever looks good to me at the time. i came home with a spaghetti squash and decided spaghetti squash "lasagna" was on the menu. i also tossed in some spinach and sautéed mushrooms for an even more veggie packed punch and ate the entire loaf pan with no trouble.
how were your weekends? anything exciting coming up this week? i'm headed out for thai tonight with andrew and i couldn't be more excited.

I have a zillion cardigans too haha they're so comfortable and warm! And lasagna sounds good but I think I'd probably make the real deal. I don't like squash I don't think I'd like spaghetti squash (enter hate mail here). Your banana bread looks pretty delish though!
ReplyDeleteI am sooo happy you finally found the new Chobani flavors. My review was accurate, yes?! LOVED the outfit you wore on Saturday..pleasee don't tell me those are Tori Burch flats. If so, I'm incredibly jealous. I saw your spaghetti squash lasagna and am definitely interested. I haven't made squash in forever!
ReplyDeleteAnd definitely just got a huge craving for Mexican food...that margarita sounds so good! I'm a huge spicy foods person (and margarita person) so that'd be right up my alley.
ReplyDeletei just want you to cook for me. i adore margs on the rocks. I would have gobbled that up, I have never even heard of those flavors though. I have to say, Monday can be tough but like you I see it as fresh, a good fresh start.
ReplyDeleteThose drinks sound delicious and so do your tacos. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't miss a lot of foods I had to cut out for food allergies but I do really miss Chobani and greek yogurt. I'm so jealous of all of you guys trying the new flavors!
Waaaahhhhhh I want to try Chobani Bites SO BAD. They don't have them at my Jewel :( They don't have the new Chobani flavors, either, but not gonna lie, banana sounds somewhat gag inducing because banana flavored anything is NOT my thing, so I'm fine that they don't carry that. Since they had them at your Target, I'd imagine they probably carry them at my Target, since my Target is a magical land of two-story Target wonder and has err'thing ever...but Target's farther away than Jewel, so I only go to Target when I absolutely HAVE to. (Also, magical land of two-story Target wonder = WALLET DISASTER. It's best to just stay far, far away.)
ReplyDeleteOmg all of your food just made me drool...and now I'm itching for a margarita...that has nothing to do with my sleep deprivation whatsoever...I really wanted to grab chobani bites at Target on Saturday too but the price was double a regular chobani, which seemed slightly ridiculous to me, so I resisted...I now regret that decision immensely.
ReplyDeleteWell not only am I super jealous that you got so much delicious baking done this weekend, but now I have to be jealous that you found some awesome yogurt too. Happy for you. Sad for me. They don't carry Chobani in Canada, so I'll have to keep my eyes open for the new flavors when I'm next in the States.. although if previous experience is any indication, I'll probably have no luck with it - I've been dying to try the apple cinnamon one, but never found it. Aaaaand I just spent way too much time talking about yogurt... but I'm kind of obsessed.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday, girlie!
Isn't banana bread the best? I cannot say no to it!
ReplyDeleteThat spaghetti squash lasagna looks really good. Care to share the recipe?? ;)
